Puducherry, Nov 13 (UNI) With cases of diabetes rising alarminly in Puducherry, Dr M R Vidya, consultant physician and diabetologist today called for creating proper awareness among people, particularly the rural masses.
Addressing a press conference on the eve of the 'World Diabetes Day," she said this year's theme was "Childhood and Adolocent Diabetes." Dr Vidya said she would organise a camp here tomorrow in which all tests relating to diabetes would be conducted free of cost.
Stating that teachers and parents should play a vital role in preventing diabetes in children and controlling it, she stressed the need for at least half-an-hour physical exercise for children.
She said type one diabetes can occur in children and adolescents and every year across the world, about 70,000 children are detected to have type one diabetes.
Irrespective of age, or economic background it was essential for everyone to adopt a healthy food pattern and do some physical exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, she said.
