Shillong, Nov 13 (UNI) A migrant labourer was killed and eight others were injured when a stone quarry collapsed on them in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district in the wee hours today.
The incident took place at Mikuli near Pillangkata in Ri-Bhoi district around 0330 hrs when migrant labourers from Assam were loading stone chips into two trucks at the quarry sites, Superintendent of Police M K Dkhar told UNI here over the phone. Two trucks were also damaged.
Hussain Ali, one of the labourers, succumbed to his injuries at Gawahati Medical College (GMC) in Assam, while Md Amjad Khan is still trapped inside the debris.
''Our men are still trying to rescue the driver who is trapped deep inside the debris,'' Mr Dkhar said.
Four of the eight injured were admitted to the GMC, while the others were released after administering first aid, the police official said.
