Hyderabad, Nov 13 (UNI) Playing the Telangana card, senior BJP leader and former Union Home Minister L K Advani today declared that ''Telangana state will be formed within 100 days'', if the NDA government was voted to power in the 2009 general elections.
Addressing the ''Vijay Sankalp'' rally here, he said unlike the UPA government, which came to power promising a separate Telangana state and ''betrayed'' the people for the last five years, the NDA government will bring the bill within 100 days of assuming office for creating the Telangana state.
Criticising the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of being an ''obstacle'' in the formation of Telangana during the NDA regime, Mr Advani dauntingly said though late, they (TDP) had come along to support other parties for the formation of the Telangana state.
Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP, he recalled, was the ''first to suggest'' the Telangana state, but the Central leadership of the party could not pursue it, as parties like the TDP, which were supporting the NDA, were opposing the bifurcation of the state.
''We could not evolve a consensus on Telangana because of the opposition. Had there been a support of these parties (TDP) then, the NDA goverment would have created Telangana along with the three new states -- Jharkhand, Uttrakhand and Chhattisgarh'' created during his tenure as Union Home Minister, when he moved the Bill for the new states.
Charging the Congress with failing to keep an assurance during the 2004 general elections, the BJP leader claimed that the Telangana people will not forgive them for ''the Telengana betrayal''.
