Puducherry, Nov 13 (UNI) Taking strong exception to the reported move of the Puducherry Adminsitration to hand over the Government Medical College building to the ESI Corporation, different political parties and organisations today urged the Lt Governor to ensure that the administration runs medical Colleges well.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr G Sundaramurty, UT President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alleged that the act of the new government headed by V Vaithilignam amounted to cheating the students.

He said the Chief Minister should clarify what happened to the funds allotted for the medical college and reveal the truth, considering the welfare of the people.

He charged that the new government was citing financial crunch for the non-implementation of all the schemes and warned that if the situation continued, the Union Territory would lose it's identity.

Demanding that a decision on the handing over of the building should be taken only after hearing views of all political parties here, he said the NCP and its supporting parties would use the issue as an election plank in the coming parliamentary elections.

Asking that if seven private medical colleges could function at a cost of Rs 100 crore, why not a government college, he said the farmers who gave land for the College were also opposed to the move.

He said if the building was handed over to the ESIC due to lack of funds, the Chief Minister and Health Minster should resign owning moral responsibility.
