Shillong, Nov 13: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister Adviser Pariong on Thursday, Nov 13 said the government had taken health as a major services provider.
'' We have accepted this as a challenge and we are committed to the cause, in spite of funds constraints, manpower and other factors, '' Dr Pariong told the Assembly.
He said the government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding with committed parties for establishing medical colleges on Private Public Partnership (PPP) model.
To a call attention, moved by HDR Lyngdoh (Cong), the Health Minister informed that the government had entered into an agreement with the Emergency Medical and Research Institute to provide emergency medical response across the state round the clock with free services to the people.
'' We are also going to invite voluntary organisations and agencies to provide 24x7 services for far flung Public Health Centres/Community Health Centres for the benefit of the rural poor and particularly for maternal and child health, '' Dr Pariong said.
He further informed that the government had also decided to provide health insurance to the Below Poverty Line and weaker section of the community.
Pointing out that the promotion of healthcare was a continuous process, Dr Pariong stressed on the need for having healthy participation of people in the participatory process.
