Lankan troops recover explosive-laden suicide jacket outside Colombo
Colombo, Nov 13 (UNI) The Sri Lankan military, conducting routine search operation, has recovered a ''suicide jacket'' with C-4 explosives from an abandoned shopping complex in the outskirts of Colombo, military here said today.
''Army troops swooped on an abandoned commercial complex at Bangalawatte, Wattala, this morning and found a Tiger suicide jacket, filled with one kg of C-4 explosives, kept hidden under the staircase of the building complex,'' the military said.
It said the complex with 26 shopping stalls had been left abandoned for some time and the troops during the search found a suspicious parcel containing the suicide jacket in the space right below the first banister of the staircase.
''Troops summoned police and conducted a further search after cordoning the area,'' it said.
The Sri Lankan army backed by air and artillery bombardment has moved deep into the LTTE-held areas in the north, despite fierce resistance and counter-attack by the rebels.
The military also claimed that the troops today have captured fresh territories from the rebels in the north.
