Land acquisition for Kannur Airport to be completed by Jan 2009

Kannur, Nov 13 (UNI) The acquisition of 437 hectares of land for the proposed Kannur Airport will be completed by January next year, District Collector Ishitha Roy said today.

Talking to newspersons here, she said the District Level Purchase Committee (DLPC) had already completed the negotiations for total 394 hectares of land from 851 title holders.

The government had signed the consent letter with title holders after fixing the rate of Rs 16,000 to Rs 22,000 per cent.

She said the next DLPC meeting would be held on November 19 and then decide the rate for the balance 42 hectares of land.

The airport project has gathered momentum with the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), the nodal agency for the state government, inviting expression of interest from consultants for developing the proposed greenfield airport, about 20 KM from here.

As many as 136 families being displaced will be rehabilitated .

The special attractive package of rehabilitation included assignment of ten cents of land to each families in areas close to the airport from 50 to 500 metres, so the eviction problems from same locality will not affect directly to families.
