Lakhs of devotees take holy dip in Bihar on Kartik Poornima

Patna, Nov 13 (UNI) Lakhs of devotees took a holy dip in the Ganges and other sacred rivers across the state on the occasion of Kartik Poornima today.

Thousands of devotees had congregated on the banks of Ganges before the dawn and took a holy dip.

The stream of devotees started arriving on the bank of Ganges since last night and sang the traditional hymns before taking dip in the Ganges. Devotees continued to take dip in the Ganges and other rivers here till sunset.

The devotess paid obesiance to the rivers and and also worshipped in temples.

At various places in Patna, special religious discourses were organised where thousands of devotees participated in the function.

Reports from Hajipur said lakhs of devotees also took holy dip in Sonepur the congregation place of two sacred rivers--Ganga and Gandak.

East Central Railway had introduced special trains on its various sections to cope with the surging crowd of devotees, the report said adding foolproof security arrangements were also made at premises of Sonepur Harihar Kshetra fare in Vaishali district.

Reports from other parts of the state also said lakhs of devotees took a holy dip in sacred rivers on the occasion.

Special worship was offered in Takht Harmandir Sahib in Patna City on the occasion of birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Deo. The occasion was celeberated as Prakash Utsav.
