Jhargram cut off from state after tribals cut trees
Midnapur, Nov 12 (UNI) The Sub-Divisional Headquarter of Jhargram town in Midnapur district tonight became unreachable from the rest of State after agitating tribals fell trees on the State Highway No 9.
Hundreds of tribals congregated at around 2200 hrs and started felling big Sal trees standing on both sides on the road near Sarada Vidyapith point, about 200 meters ahead of the town, SDO Tanmoy Chakraborty said.
Earlier yesterday, the road towards Jhargram was cut off from Dahijuri side and today it was cut off from the other side of the National Highway 6 Mumbai Road, he added.
Police remained a silent spectator as the road link towards Purulia, Bankura, Durgapur and Belpahari was completely cut off.
Hundreds of trucks and buses have already stopped on the road, he alleged.
The demonstrators used chalk and red ink to inscribe their demands on the black-metalled Highway and walls.
