Chennai, Nov 13 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his inept handling of the clash between two groups of students of Dr Ambedkar Law College in the city and criticised the police personnel, who allegedly stood in silence and remained as mute spectators when they clashed.

In a release issued from her party office, Ms Jayalalithaa alleged that the Chief Minister has threatened the channels which telecast the violence in Law College. Police too, alleged that since Mr Karunanidhi has not given them sufficient power, they could not prevent the clash between the two groups of students.

The AIADMK supremo said the College Principal and the entire police force which witnessed the incident should be dismissed with immediate effect. ''Mr Karunanidhi took the decision to suspend the police officials concerned, only when I issued a statement on the issue,'' she added.

Ms Jayalalithaa alleged that the Chief Minister, instead of facing the mind-boggling issue in the Assembly, had decided to ''escape'' from the reality by sending the Public Works Department Minister Duraimurugan, who is a ''novice'', as far as the legal matters are concerned, to explain the burning issue.

The Minister also said an enquiry commission would be set up under Justice Shanmugam, which is nothing but a ''sheer drama'' enacted in all enquiry commissions appointed by the minority DMK Government, the release added.
