Indian food, bever'age industry to grow in double digits: Sahay
Mumbai, Nov 13 (UNI) The Indian food and beverage industry is expected witness double digit growth in the coming years, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahay asserted today.
Speaking at the Food&Bev Summit 2008, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with the three-day second edition international food exhibition, Food&Bev Tech 2008, he said, ''The need of the hour is to cater to the international market by focusing on supply chain management and research and development.'' ''In order to fulfill Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's call for a second green revolution, post harvest management was extremely vital,'' Mr Sahay said.
While commending the growth of the sector in the last few years, the minister said a lot needs to be done especially with the changing food habits and upgradation of Tier II cities.
''Technology would be a vital ingredient in the growth of the food processing industry,'' he said.
