Bhopal, Nov 13 (UNI) Dismissing as an ''electoral bundle of lies'' a 'charge-sheet' issued today by Madhya Pradesh's main opposition Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party Secretary and MP Prabhat Jha said the document only revealed the Congress leaders' thirst to return to power.
''Only baseless allegations have been levelled in the charge-sheet in view of the November 27 polling. The public understands this very well. Over the past five years, the Congress has been unable to properly fulfil the opposition's role that is imperative for healthy democracy,'' he told reporters here.
The charge-sheet made it seem as if the Congress was expressing disappointment in view of a possible defeat, Mr Jha said while adding that none of the corruption-linked accusations against the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues were proved and therefore they could not be declared guilty.
''If the Congress had properly fulfilled the opposition's role then it would have taken to the streets over public problems.
Besides, it could not bring a no-confidence motion against the government. The leaders of the Congress -- which was in power for most of the period since independence -- are used to a life of ease and that is why they simply cannot struggle against so-called public problems,'' he added.
To a query, Mr Jha said that the BJP had complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI) against National Scheduled Castes Commission Member and the Bhander reserved assembly constituency's Congress candidate Mahendra Baudh occupying two offices of profit.
''The ECI was also urged to examine the candidature of Mr Heeralal who is the Congress nominee from Bhopal district's Berasia (SC) while his daughter Taruna Yadav and other kin are deriving Other Backward Classes' benefits. A BJP delegation will approach the ECI,'' he said.
