Gangtok, Nov 13 (UNI) Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has left for California, USA, to attend a global summit on climate change on the personal invitation of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The Hollywood superstar, in his invitational letter, had requested the Chief Minister to join him and other US Governors and invited leaders from around the world to this historic summit in the fight against global warming, an official release informed.
The two-day summit is scheduled to be held at Beverly Hills, California, from November 18 and will work to promote international action by forging international partnerships and advancing specific, practical cooperation by the industrial, energy, transportation and forestry sectors.
This ground-breaking international forum, dedicated to finding practical and sustainable solutions in the fight against global climate change, is hosted by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and co-hosted by US Governors taking the lead in climate change.
Mr Schwarzenegger has also enclosed a draft declaration that provides a framework for further cross-regional collaboration and requested the Chief Minster for his comments and suggestions which the latter has already done.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling is a well-known environmentalist and recognised by the Centre for Science and Environment in 1999 as ''most committed and dedicated to environment and sustainable development'', the release added.
