London, Nov 13 : A Canadian man, who was arrested for his role in a drug trafficking ring, has been released from jail early because he was too large for his cell.

Michel Lapointe, known as Big Mike because of his 450 pounds weight, was arrested in September 2006 and was sentenced to 5 years in jail.

However, being fat worked in his favor as the jail authorities got fed up of his extra flab hanging out of everything he tried to relax in.

He could not fit on the chair in his Montreal prison cell and when he went to bed, his body stuck out six inches on either side.

The authorities sent a letter to Lapointe before freeing him on the 11th of November 2008.

"You have been detained for more than 25 months and your prison conditions are difficult because of your health," The Telegraph quoted the letter, as stating.

Lapointe, 37, couldn't thank his luck and fat enough for being freed to finally relax in a jumbo sized bed.

"I'm going to have a proper bed and finally have a chair I can sit in," he said.

"I want a normal life. I've done some stupid things and I've paid for them," he added.
