Washington, Nov 13 : An American idol contestant, who was apparently infatuated with Paula Abdul, was found dead in a car near the home of the pop star and judge she admired, authorities have said.

The deceased named Paula Goodspeed, 30, was a contestant in the 5th season of the reality show.

According to cops, she appears to have died of a drug overdose.

Godspeed's audition was aired during the season that began in January 2006. Her audition performance of "Proud Mary" was panned and mocked by the judge.

It has been reported that Goodspeed's mother had informed the police about her missing daughter and informed them that she was suicidal.

"Ms. Goodspeed's mother had gone to [the sheriff's department] to report her daughter missing, and advised them that she might be suicidal," People magazine quoted Los Angeles police Capt. James Miller, as saying.

"The sheriffs determined that Ms. Goodspeed may be up in the vicinity by Paula Abdul's house. Our officers discovered her vehicle parked on the street, and found her inside. She was unresponsive to officers," he added.

Although Paula Abdul was not home when the incident took place, she has uttered deep shock and sadness over the incident. "I am deeply shocked and saddened at what transpired yesterday, my heart and prayers go out to her family," Abdul said in a statement.
