Agartala, Nov 12 (UNI) The Tripura government has decided to introduce Neuro-surgical treatment in Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital soon, facilitated by the Kolkata-based Institute of Neuro Sciences and National Neuro Science Centre (INS&NNSC).

Talking to mediapersons here today, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the state government had been seriously trying to install Neuro-surgical treatment in Tripura but due to manpower shortage it was not possible.

The Cabinet yesterday approved the proposal to facilitate the organisations run by two renowned Neuro-surgeons Dr John Jakobaski and Dr Rabin Sen in the Out Patient Department (OPD) in the state hospital.

''The Neuro-surgical unit will function like other OPDs in GBP hospital with specialist doctors deputed by INS&NNSC and initial treatment and advice will be given here without any extra fees,'' Mr Sarkar pointed out.

The government has entrusted the responsibility to the state health department to formulate the plan and modalities of the deal with INS&NNSC and the unit is expected to start by this year, Mr Sarkar said, adding Tripura had a substantial number of neuro patients but they had to go to Kolkata even for minor Neurological complications.
