Mumbai, Nov 12 (UNI) Six members of a family, including a six-year old girl, were killed when the five-storeyed 'Sayyed building' collapsed at Nagdevi street near Crawford Market in south Mumbai early today.

Initially, the rear wall of the 70-year-old building collapsed at 0530 hrs, giving no chance for the people to scamper out, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sources said.

All the deceased were trapped under the debris and extricated by fire-brigade personnel.

The owner of the building, Dr Sayyed Imran and his family memebrs including his wife Mrs R Sayed (32), two sons-- Obed Sayed (12) Fahad Sayed (20), daughter Mariyam Sayed (6) and his brother Salman Sayed (25) were among the killed.

Fire-brigade personnel, police and local residents were engaged in the rescue work, which was completed at 1300 hrs.

Local Pydhoni police, along with the BMC staff, are investigating the cause of the collapse. An ongoing construction of a neighbouring building could have caused vibrations as the building was shaking before it collapsed.
