Puducherry, Nov 12 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is planning to create a separate law and order and investigation section in the police department, Home Minister E Valsaraj said today.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Valsaraj said the proposal for creation of new posts and filling vacant posts, opening of women police stations in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions and a traffic police station at Ikirumambakkam, here were pending before the Union Home Ministry.
He said DGP Mr Khan had spoken to the authorities in the Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday, in this regard.
Stating that the coastal police station was functioning in Karaikal, he said the Centre had sanctioned two speed boats for the station, which were being built in Mumbai.
To a question, Mr Valsaraj said the police was taking stringent action against those who picket police stations and recently 70 to 80 people were booked as they refused to disperse.
He said in an incident a few people, including a sitting MLA were booked under non-bailable sections.
He said the administration propose to construct a multi-level parking facility at the old jail premises on the busy Nehru street here.
The government had decided to provide House Rent Allowance (HRA) to the Indian Reseve Battalion (IRB) personnel here with retrospective effect from April 17, 2006.
As many as 1,007 IRB personnel would be benefitted and the government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 1.86 crores during 2008-09, he added.
