'Security reasons' may see Indo-Pak series put off

By Staff

Karachi, Nov 12 : The Indo-Pak cricket series scheduled for early next year in Pakistan may be called off, as India's External Affairs Ministry believes that security situation in the host country is "dangerous".

But, a final decision is yet to be taken in this regard.

The series include three Tests, five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 International in January-February 2009.

Quoting a TV channel report, The News reported that just a day after India cancelled its junior hockey team's visit of Pakistan over security concerns the Indian external affairs ministry is against the idea of clearing the country's high-profile cricket tour of Pakistan.

The Indian mission in Islamabad is learnt to have given a report on the security situation in Pakistan, clearly outlining the "dangerous situation" in the country.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) website, too, is yet to confirm the six-week long itinerary starting January 2009. Board sources said that they will discuss the Pakistan tour in detail with MEA in December.
