CM directs officials to form more number SHGs
Hyderabad, Nov 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy directed the officials concerned to form more number Self Help Groups (SHGs) in urban areas and extend banking facilities to slum dwellers.
He also directed to take up new initiatives for urban poverty alleviation and also provide placements in skill development training.
While chairing the second governing body of Indira Kranthi Patham (Urban) called Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) with the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Koneru Ranga Rao and senior officials concerned here today the Chief Minister noted that Banks are resorting to forcible sale of insurance schemes to SHGs as a precondition for sanction of loans.
The Chief Minister said since the groups were already paying subsidized premiums under Janasri Bima Yojana (JBY) and other group insurance schemes, the members should not be put to further hardships. He said that he would talk to the bankers in this regard.
