Agartala, Nov 12: A local court has sent a Bangladeshi national to jail for 14 days for procuring fake Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) and other citizenship documents in Tripura.
Police said the accused, Md Jakaria Mulla, was arrested at Akhaura check post by customs officials on October 14 when he was crossing the border. A valid passport as well as a fake passport had been recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, he was produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody and he got bail on November 9. But during investigation police found that Md Mulla had managed to procure Indian PRC and other important citizenship documents from Sachindranagar village under Jirania police station area of West Tripura.
He was again arrested on November 10 from a hotel in Agartala and the court sent him to jail yesterday for the second time, police said, adding a separate investigation was launched to identify his links in Tripura and how he managed the documents.
