Antony calls for propaganda against extremism

Kottayam, Nov 12: Defence Minister A K Antony on Wednesday, Nov 12 stressed the need for making strong propaganda against extremism.

Inaugurating the Pareeksha Bhavan, constructed as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the M G University here, he said targeting a particular community or religion in the name of extremism would only affect adversely. Stern action should be taken against the individuals engaged in extremist activities irrespective of political, religious, caste or family considerations.

Warning against the growing tendency of extremism in the name of religion, politics and regionalism, Mr Antony called upon universities, teachers and student organisations to create awareness against extremism among the youth. Universities should be capable of creating a young generation which could react positively towards problems in the society.

M G University Vice-Chancellor Jancy James presided. Mr Suresh Kurup, MP, and Mr Thomas Chazhikadan, MLA, also addressed the function.

Mr Antony also released the special issue of the Mahatma Gandhi University Newsletter brought out in connection with the jubilee celebrations by handing over a copy to Mr Suresh Kurup.
