Chennai, Nov 11: The Perambur flyover project will be completed by Dec 2009, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said on Monday, Nov 10 after inspecting the project site. Eight of the 30 pillars to come up have been erected. Though the targeted date of completion of the Rs 51 crore project is Feb 2010, the work would get over at least two months ahead, he told mediapersons.
Instead of deep pile pillars, open foundation pillars with broad concrete base have been proposed for the 1,038-metre-long flyover, Stalin said. Work on the project, entrusted to IVRCL Infrastructure and Projects Ltd, commenced about six months ago based on the new design provided by Anna University. The University was commissioned for the design after a technical snag came in the way of the project being taken up after it was revised in 2006. Highlighting the other infrastructure projects coming up in north Chennai, he said work on eight flyovers and vehicular subways, including those in Perambur, Villivakkam and Mint, were in various stages of implementation. The total cost of the projects is Rs 182.13 crore.

Stalin said the flyover on G N Chetty Road in T Nagar would be inaugurated by Dec 15.
