Nominations for Delhi Assy polls close; over 1100 file nominations

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) The process for filing of nominations for the November 29 Delhi Assembly elections came to a close this evening with over 1100 candidates filing their nominations for 70 Assembly seats for which polls are to be held.

The last day of filing of nominations witnessed a huge rush of contestants from several parties with over 600 filing their papers from nine districts, the state election commission said.

Among those who filed their papers on the last day were BJP nominee from New Delhi assembly constituency Vijay Jolly, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri from Mehrauli, former Additional commissioner of police Amod Kant from Sangam Vihar, former DPCC chief Rambabu Sharma from Rohtas Nagar, former Deputy Mayor Anita Babbar from Tilak Nagar and former Leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar from Greater Kailash.

With the Congress having released its second list of 22 candidates for the assembly polls only yesterday, there was expectedly a huge rush for filing nominations by those whose candidatures were announced yesterday.

With today's nominations, over 1100 nominations have been filed since the filing of paper began on November 4 with the issuance of notifications for the assembly polls.

As per the notification, November 11 had been fixed as the last date for filing of nominations. Scrutiny of papers will be done tomorrow.

The last date for the withdrawal of candidatures is November 14.

Counting of votes will be taken up on December 8. The term of the present Legislative Assembly of Delhi is expiring on December 17.
