Bangalore, Nov 11 (UNI) Defence Major Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) will soon bring out three multi-purpose Radar which can be used by three wings of the Defence force, LRDE Director S Varadarajan said today.
Terming them as 'Signature Projects' of the LRDE, Mr Varadarajan told newsmen that works are in full swing to develop Medium Power Radar, Low-level transport Radar and Synthetic Approach Radar.
"While Synthetic Approach Radar will be ready within 24 months, other two Radars would be ready within next 36 months to 40 months." he added.
Mr Varadarajan said that unlike in earlier days the Radar were manufactured for a particular purpose like Surveillance, the new Radar would be of multi-functional and can be used by any wing of the defence. The new Radars can be interception guidance by potential application and can be applied for fire control also.
"Unlike 'Rajendra' a multifunction electronically scanned phased array Radar, which was tied up with 'Akash', the new Radars in the pipeline can be utilised for any purpose.
He said that in these new products the hardware configuration and power level are highly programable. " Our ultimate aim is to see that the new Radars would be of multiple function and multi application.
Mr Varadarajan said that since last one decade the LRDE has come out with 12 different types of Radars.
He said that already initiative has been taken to develop Active Electronic Scanning Array Radar for air borne application.
Replying to a question, he said that though LRDE was not concerned with the volume of demand, there certainly going to be increase in demand for multi-purpose and multi-functional Radars once they were brought out.
LRDE will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee tomorrow.
