Barrackpore, Nov 11 (UNI) Several workers of the Gouripur Jute Mill at Naihati in North 24 Parganas today continued their hunger strike in front of the Regional Provident Fund organisation office at Titagarh near here for the second day.
The workers alleged that the provident fund authorities were reluctant to pay their dues for long years since the jute mill was closed in 1997.
More than a thousand demonstrators began their renewed movement under the banner of the Gouripur Jute Mill Majdoor Banchao Manch yesterday with hunger strike and held meeting, alleging that at least 5,000 workers were deprived of their provident fund.
Manch president Subrata Sengupta yesterday claimed that the Union Labour Ministry had entrusted the provident fund authorities to pay the workers' dues but the PF authorities did not comply with the order of the union ministry for last two years.
He said the deprived workers had decided to continue hunger strike until PF authorities paid their dues.
