Extension of Coimbatore broad guage express train
Coimbatore,
Nov
11:
The
Coimbatore
Consumer
Cause
has
asked
the
Railway
Ministry
to
consider
the
extension
of
an
overnight
broad
gauge
express
train
from
Coimbatore
to
Rameshwaram
on
the
Coimbatore-Erode-Karur-Madurai
route.
In
a
memorandum,
its
secretary,
K
Kathirmathiyon,
said
that
the
train
service
to
Madurai
and
Rameshwaram
on
the
meter
gauage
section
benefiting
the
population
from
southern
districts
was
withdrawn
in
view
of
the
gauge
conversion
works
taken
up
by
the
Railway
Ministry
between
Dindigul
and
Palani.
Now,
meter
gauge
trains
are
running
between
Podanur
and
Dindigul
Junction
without
any
connection
trains
to
Rameswaram.
This
had
resulted
in
a
major
industrial
city
in
the
Western
Tamil
Nadu
-
Coimbatore
-
going
without
any
direct
train
connectivity
with
the
southern
districts
beyond
Madurai.
