New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Mirroring the slow down in the Indian economy, especially the industrial sector, both Excise and Customs duty collections fell by hefty five per cent in October, data released here showed.
The excise collections, which took a big hit in October due to slow growth of the manufacturing sector, decreased by 8.7 per cent to Rs 18,664 crore as against Rs 19,646 crore during the same period a year ago.
Custom duty collections declined by 0.9 per cent to Rs 9,265 crore from Rs 9,353 crore in October 2007.
Service tax, maintained its momentum, recording a growth rate in September of 18 per cent with a figure of Rs 4,732 crore.
