DoT to levy 3% licence fee on 3G players
New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Telecom Secretary Siddhartha Behura today said the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided to impose an annual licence fee of three per cent of total revenues on the mobile operators who will roll out 3G services on stand-alone basis.
''The government will impose one per cent annual licence fee of total revenue on existing 2G players, who would also offer 3G services,'' said the Secretary, who is also the Chairman of Telecom Commission.
Currently, the mobile operators pay two to six per cent of spectrum usage charges, which may become three to eight per cent from January next.
However, the Telecom Commission, the apex decision making body, in a meeting today did not take any decision on the one-time spectrum enhancement charge on 2G radiowaves.
