Badal deposes in defamation case, hearing adjourned to Jan 10
Chandigarh, Nov 11 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today appeared in a local court in connection with the Rs 5 crore defamation suit filed by him against the Congress party.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Kanchan Mahi adjourned the case till January 10, as the cross-examination of Mr Badal by the defence lawyer remained incomplete.
The Congress had launched an advertisement campaign before 2002 assembly polls alleging that then chief minister Mr Badal and his family had acquired massive assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The party also alleged that Mr Badal had struck a deal with Haryana regarding Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal under which the Badal family was allocated prime land for its Orbit Resorts.
Mr Badal had denied the charges and slapped a defamation case against the Congress, seeking a compensation of Rs five crore.
