Jammu, Nov 11: Over 55 per cent polling was registered by the government employees from three Assembly constituencies of Poonch district, which will go for election in Phase-I on November 17, official spokesman today said.
''In special arrangements made by the administration yesterday, more than 55 per cent service voters turned up to cast vote in Poonch,'' the spokesman said.
The polling, held under the supervision of the Election Commission Observer, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch Mohammad Afzal Bhat and respective Returning Officers of the three constituencies -- Poonch-Haveli, Surankote and Mendhar.
Of total 1,716 service voters in the bordering district, including 95 female, 957 exercised their right to franchise.
In Poonch Assembly segment, out of a total of 571 service voters, 354 polled their votes, while in Surankote, out of a total of 576 service voters, 350 cast votes and in Mendhar constituency, 253 services voters out of a total of 569 exercised their right to franchise, the spokesman said.
Poonch district in Jammu, Leh and Kargil in Ladakh area and Bandipora districts in Kashmir region would go to polls in first phase on November 17. Of total 87 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, election will be held for 10 in Phase-I.
Campaigning for the first phase of polling would end on November 15 evening. The Assembly election for the last phase (seventh) would be on December 24.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the elections.
