New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court today verbally directed the CBI not to arrest Calcutta-based industrialist Ashok Todi, an accused in Rizwanur death case till November 17.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balkrishnan and Justices P Sathasivam and J M Panchal told the counsel for CBI not to arrest Todi till November 17, when the court will hear his petition seeking cancellation of non-bailable warrant issued against him by the Judicial Magistrate Calcutta on account of non-appearance.

Rizwanur, who had married Priyanka Todi, daughter of Ashok Todi, was found dead under mysterious circumstances and his family members alleged that he was murdered at the instance of Todi as he opposed the marriage of his daughter to Rizwanur.

However, Todi has denied the allegations of his involvement in the death of his son-in-law.

Priyanka had given a statement to CBI that Rizwanur committed suicide as he was not able to put up with the emotional pressure despite the advice given by her that the things will be normal after sometime and therefore he should show patience.

Other accused in the case include the then DCP of the area, Todi's brother and a relative.

The apex court, however, did not pass any formal order staying the arrest of Todi.
