National Hornbill Rock Contest to be a part of Music Festival

Kohima, Nov 10 (UNI) The National Hornbill Rock Contest, a part of the Hornbill Music Festival, 2008, will be the one of the main attractions in the famous tourist festival, the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland, which will begin here from December 1.

Addressing a press conference here this morning, Mr K T Sukhalo, Secretary of Youth and Social Welfare Department of the Government of Nagaland, Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, Legislator of Kohima town and the Chairman of the Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN) and the Project Director of Nagaland Music Task Force, told newspersons that a total of eight bands, including from some of the metros, had registered their names for the National Hornbill Rock Contest.

Mr Sukhalo informed that the telecom company Airtel would sponsor the first prize of the National Hornbill Rock Contest - Rs five lakh - and hoped that more multi-national and national business giants will come up with their sponsorship of the other events of the contest.

Dr Kire informed that the music competition on particular styles and presentations by the Naga Idols selected during the year, will be added attractions of the Hornbill Music festival, 2008.

He also informed that participants in large number from throught the country, especially from the North East Region, would also join in various categories during the Festival.

Mr Chishi said the organizers of the Hornbill Rock Contest this year expected at least 15 Rock Bands from throughout the country, against 12 bands of last year.

He also confirmed that communication was continuing with various Rock Bands from three metros, including Kolkata and Mumbai. He also informed that a total of five Rock Bands of Nagaland have applied for the Contest and the organisers will select some of them for the Contest through auditions before the main Contest start.

He said during the seven-day long Hornbill Music Festival, the first day will be the launch of the Festival, there will be no programme on second day due to Indo-Korean festival, which will be at the Secretariat Plaza. December 3 will be the second day of the Music Festival with Country, Western and Blue concert, featuring veterans. The audition of the Hornbill Rock Contest will begin from December 4 and the grand finale and prize distribution will be taken up on December 7 on the ultimatum day of the festival.
