Shillong, Nov 10 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief minister Donkupar Roy today said he would not allow his government to be ruled by any muscle power.
'' We will not tolerate muscle power to rule the state and believe in the rule of democracy,'' Dr Roy said, while replying to a call attention by Mining and Geology Minister Donkupar Massar who had allegedly assaulted some labourers.
Earlier, before Congress legislator Rowell Lyngdoh moved the call attention, Mr Massar, who was involved in ''assaulting controversies'' went out of the House and watched the proceedings on the call attention from a TV allotted in the ruling party room.
Several NGOs, besides some opposition Congress MLAs had asked the Chief Minister to sack the Minister following the FIR filed by the road labourers who were allegedly assaulted by the Minister.
Earlier, the co-ordination committee of Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) government decided to wait for the police investigation report related to the case before taking any action against Mr Massar.
Today, the Chief Minister informed the House that an FIR had been lodged by the labourers with the Ranikor police station in West Khasi Hills district.
He, however, said that the police have registered a case against the minister based on the FIR. ''Though, the Minister obtained anticipatory bail from Nongstoin police station yesterday, the case will be investigated thoroughly,'' Dr Roy assured.
