Tiruchirapalli, Nov 10 (UNI) The Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries' Association (TIDITSSIA) has urged the Centre to set up a sub-regional office of Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Tiruchirapalli district as industrial activiites were increasing in and aroud it.
This would benefit about 1.2 lakh employees, Association President S Sridharan said in a letter to Union Minister of state for Labour and employement, copy of which was made available to the pres here today.
A sub-regional office of the headquarters of ESIC was also necessary in Tiruchirapalli due to the presence of major public sector undertakings, vibrant private sector enterprises, several educational institutions and vital Central Government entities in the district, he pointed out.
Proximity to industrially active districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, Karur, Perambalur and Ariyalur also justified this demand, he added.
Commending the functioning of ESIC in the region, he was emphatic that insured employees in the central districts of Tamil Nadu can enjoy benefit of medical care and services if a Sub-Regional Office was set up in Tiruchirapalli.
This would enhance the scope for transformation of the 50 bed ESIC hospital in Tiruchirapalli into a super-speciality hospital akin to the one in Chennai. Quality medical service could also be provided to all sections of people, he added.
Calling for notification of coverage of Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts, he explained the difficulties faced by employees and employers in Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur and Karur districts, currently attached to the SRO at Salem and those in Pudukkottai district, attached to Madurai SRO, to derive full benefit.
