Chennai, Nov 10 (UNI) The final list of Electoral rolls for all districts in Tamil Nadu will be published on January 10 next, State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) Naresh Gupta said today.
Talking to mediapersons here after a meeting with State-level representatives of the recognised political parties held to apprise them of the schedule, Mr Gupta said the process of special summary revision of the electoral rolls arising out of delimitation has been completed with the final roll by October 20.
While it was published in all districts, in respect of Coimbatore, it got delayed due to some technical hitch and it would be published by November 12.
The CEO said the Election Commission has communicated the schedule for the annual summary revision of eletoral rolls with January 1, 2009 as the qualifying date.
''The draft roll has been published today and the period of filing of claims and objections will continue till November 25.
''In respect of Kancheepuram, Chennai and Kancheepuram districts the draft rolls will be published on November 17 and the period of of filing claims and objections will be till December 2,'' Mr Gupta said, adding the final electoral rolls of all the districts would be published uniformly on January 10, 2009.
Asked about bypolls to the Tirumangalam assembly constituency following the death of MDMK Member Veera Elavarasan, Mr Gupta said ''we have six months time to conduct the polls. Whenever the bypoll is held, it would be conducted as per the pre-delimitation process.
