New Delhi, Nov.10 : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit filed her nomination papers from New Delhi constituency for the forthcoming assembly polls on Monday.

Hundreds of Congress party members waited for her outside the returning officer's office in the national capital as she filed her papers for the November 29 Assembly elections.

Shouting slogans and waving flags, supporters cheered Dikshit who has been serving as Chief Minister for the last ten years.

The ruling Congress party, hit by inflation and perceived as having weak government leadership at the centre, has been losing ground to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in elections in various states over the last year.

But analysts say that the 71-year-old leader, who is serving her second consecutive term is likely to garner the support of the people of Delhi because of the development activities that are being extensively undertaken by her government ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Vijay Jolly of the opposition BJP, who is contesting against Dikshit would be filing his papers on Tuesday, the last day for filing the nominations.

Five Indian states including Delhi are going to polls during November and December to elect new Assemblies (legislatures).

These assembly elections are expected to be a run down to the forthcoming general elections in early 2009 that would test the political temperature.
