New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) The country will celebrate the National Education Day tomorrow as a tribute to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the great freedom fighter, eminent educationist and the first Education Minister of Independent India.
November 11 is the birth anniversary of Maulana Azad.
Educational institutions at all levels would be involved in organizing seminars, symposia, workshops, rallies on the importance of literacy and the nation's commitment to all aspects of education on 'National Education Day'.
The inaugural function will be held here at Vigyan Bhavan in which President Pratibha Devisingh Patil will be the Chief Guest.
The function will be presided by Minister of Human Resource Development Arjun Singh. Mr A Raja, Minister of Communications&IT will be the Guest of Honour.
A special cover on Maulana Azad will be released on the occasion by the President. A set of books on the great educationist published by National Book Trust of India will also be released at the function. The National Book Trust will also organize a photographic exhibition on Maulana Azad on this occasion at Vigyan Bhavan.
The function will be attended by Vice Chancellors of state and central Universities, heads of central educational institutes, eminent educationists and school children. Similar functions will also be organized in many states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, West Bengal, etc.
The Election Commision has given clearance to this programme subject to the condition that no political speeches will be made on this occasion.
