Hyderabad, Nov 10: Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the online distribution of scholarships and fee reimbursement for minority students on Tuesday, Nov 11.
Addressing a press conference here today, Andhra Pradesh Minorities Finance Corporation Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Mohd Ilyas Rizvi said the state government would celebrate the Minority Welfare Day tomorrow on the occasion of the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad by distributing the scholarships.
He said for the year 2008-09, the state government had allocated Rs 123 crore for various welfare programmes for minorities. Out of this, the Corporation had disbursed Rs 75.22 crore to 3.24 beneficiaries under different schemes.
He said during the year, 90,502 students were given post-matric scholarships of Rs 20.32 crore and fee reimbursement of Rs 15.70 crore. About Rs 13.99 crore was disbursed among 2.12 lakh students under pre-matric scholarships.
For the year 2008-09, it was proposed to sanction Rs 51.13 crore to 1.64 lakh students under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme and for reimbursement of tuition fee of Rs 120.13 crore, he added.
He said for the current year, the Centre would sanction merit-cum-means based scholarships to 867 students for professional courses and post-matric scholarships to 7,586 students of non-professional courses along with the renewed scholarships to all students, who got scholarship last year under the same scheme.
