BSF nabbed 70 infiltrators, seized heroin and arms: chief
Hoshiarpur, Nov 10 (UNI) Border Security Force (BSF) was keeping a strict vigil on the 553 Km long Indo-Pak border and had arrested 70 Pakistani infiltrators and seized 95 Kg heroin, 3 AK 47 rifles and 4 mouser guns from smugglers so far this year, according to Inspector General, BSF Punjab, Himmat Singh.
Addressing a press conference at Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) BSF, Kharkan camp near here today, Mr Singh claimed there were several attempts of infiltration on the Indo-Pak border for disturbing peace in the country.
''As many as 70 such infiltrators of the Pakistan had been arrested by the BSF during their attempts to intrude into Indo-Pak border during the current year. Besides, three infiltrators at Amritsar and 4 at Fazilka broders had been killed during encounters,'' he said.
The main infiltration was being done through river Sutlej at Hussainiwala border. To check the infiltration, BSF had further intensified its continuous vigil round the clock on the border.
Earlier this month three Pakistani infiltrators with a cache of arms, ammunition, narcotics and fake Indian currency had travelled along the Sutlej riverine terrain to reach Khanike village about 5 m from the border and stayed there for a day before returning safely, ---an incident which the Punjab Chief NPS Aulakh had described as ''serious and dangerous security lapse''.
