American Center prime accused Sadaqat arrested from Mumbai
Kolkata, Nov 10 (UNI) Sadaqat alias Mohammad Sadiq, the prime accused in the terrorist attack on the American Center in Kolkata in 2002, has been arrested in Mumbai.
''Sadqat was arrested by Mumbai police on September 24 in connection with the Mumbai train blasts. He is now in an Ahmedabad jail in the name of Mohammad Sadiq in connection with the Gujarat blasts. He is also the prime accused in the attack on the American Center here in which six policemen were killed,'' DC DD(1) Javed Shamim today said.
Acting on an information, Mr Shamim and a Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police had visited Ahmedabad on Saturday last and were confirmed following interrogation of the accused that he was the man who took the leading part in the early morning attack on American Center.
''We shall inform the court about the finding and shall bring him to Kolkata for trial,'' Mr Shamim said.
Sadaqat, a member of the Indian Mujahideen(IM), was involved in various blasts across the country.
Riding motor bikes, Sadiq and his accomplices had fired from AK 47 rifles on unsuspecting policemen when change of guard was taking place in front of the main gate of American Center.
While one of the accused was later shot dead by police in an encounter at Hazaribagh Jharkhand, 12 others had been arrested and two still remained absconding.
