Tiruchirapalli, Nov 9 (UNI) Samajwadi Party(SP) Tamil Nadu unit Working president Elango Yadhav today said the party would submit a memorandum to State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi shortly to urge the Union government to exert pressure on the Sri Lankan government for immediate ceasefire on the ethnic issue.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Yadhav said only the ceasefire could prevent the killing of the innocent Tamils in the island nation by the Lankan Army.
He also urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to give additional electricity to Tamil Nadu from the central grid to ease the present power crisis.
He said the Centre should ban the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena(MNS), besides detaining its leader Raj Thackeray under the National Security Act(NSA) to maintain peace, besides ensuring adequate protection for the North Indians, especially to the Hindi-speaking people.
Mr Yadhav said the SP would face the coming Lok Sabha elections on its own and it has decided to select its candidates for ten Lok Sabha constituencies in Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Vellore, Chennai South, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvannamalai and Coimbatore in the State.
He said the party would urge its president Mulayam Singh Yadav to contest either from Tiruchirapalli or from Ramanathapuram. The party members would send 10,000 telegrames and two lakh post-cards shortly to Mr Mulayam to accede to their requests, he added.
The SP's State General Secretary Neelamegam Yadhav said the party's delegates conference would be held at Chennai on December 14. The party's youth-wing leader Akilesh Yadhav, is also expected to participate in the conference.
