Anantapur, Nov 9 (UNI) The main accused in the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Legislator Paritala Ravi murder case was beaten to death by an undertrial in the Central jail here while he was asleep early today.
Ananthapur District Superintendent of Police M K Singh told UNI that the accused, Om Prakash, an inter-state gang leader lodged in the same barrack with Moddu Sreenu main accused in Paritala muder case, had allegedly beaten up Sreenu and smashed his head with cement dumbels.
Sreenu died in the cell. The incident occurred between 0430 hrs to 0500 hrs, the SP added.
He said there were six undertrial prisoners in the cell and the accused Om Prakash was in the same cell since last ten days. He was accused in five cases, including dacoity and a triple murder case.
On interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime stating that he had differences with Sreenu since last ten days. Last night Sreenu had a quarrel with the accused over the burning of the light in the cell. Sreenu allegedly switched off the light when Om Praksah was writing some notes.
Sreenu was the main accused in the murder of Paritala Ravi, who was shot dead in the TDP office in Ananthapur in January 2006.
Sreenu's body was sent for postmortem, the SP added.
