UP: Mohammad Adib to contest RS elections

Lucknow, Nov 9: Mohammad Adib is likely to be supported by Samajwadi Party and Congress candidate to contest in the Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh as an Independent. Though, senior leaders of both the parties have disclosed that Mr Adib has been selected for the third joint candidate in the RS election in UP, official announcement was yet to be made.

Congress sources here said Mr Adib would contest the polls as an independent candidate supported by the SP and the Congress.

A former Aligarh Muslim University(AMU) students' union president Mohammad Adib is attached with the SP since last couple of months.

He also led the protest against the Batla House encounter in New Delhi last month.

He was also a convenor of the Congress National minority campaign committee in the last Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Adib, would be the third candidate for SP as Mr Amar Singh and Mr Ram Gaopal Yadav had already filed their nominations as SP candidates for the RS polls scheduled to be held on November 21.

Tomorrow is the last date for filing of nomination papers for the RS elections.
