Indian Ladies Master suspended

By Staff

Dubai, Nov 9 (UNI) The Indian Ladies Masters, scheduled to be held at the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bangalore from December 4 to 7, has been suspended due to the current financial climate and economic meltdown.

The tournament, which was the penultimate event of the 2008 Ladies European Tour calendar, will not take place this year, although Alexandra Armas, the Ladies European Tour's Executive Director, said, ''Every effort is being made to reinstate the tournament in 2009.'' ''The Ladies European Tour and the event promoter 'golf in DUBAi' did everything possible to ensure the tournament is held on schedule, but unfortunately we were unable to do so because of economic uncertainty,'' Armas asserted.

''The Ladies European Tour and its members are looking forward to the possibility of returning to India next year. We do appreciate the efforts of 'golf in Dubai' and we are very keen on continuing our association with them.

''We also look forward to the Dubai Ladies Masters which will be played as scheduled next month. 'golf in Dubai' are giving final touches to the season-ending event which will see defending champion Annika Sorenstam make her final appearance in the competition before she steps away from the game she dominated for years, she added.

The Ladies European Tour's Executive Director further said, ''I wish the 'golf in Dubai' team the best in their endeavours in hosting the farewell party for Annika in Dubai. Knowing their organisation skills, I know it will be an event to remember,'' she added.

The inaugural edition of the Indian Ladies Masters, which put Indian women's golf on the world map, provided Indian talent an opportunity to hone their competitive skills in the company of some of the world's finest players.
