Jalandhar, Nov 9 (UNI) Renowned Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans today took a plunge into politics with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) announcing his candidature from Jalandhar (Reserve) in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
While announcing Hans' name here today, SAD president Sukhbir Badal told mediapersons that the presence of Hans, a popular singer of international repute, would definitely boost the SAD prospects in all 13 constituencies of the state.
Mr Badal announced that apart from Hans Raj Hans, three more candidates have been selected for the parliametary polls including Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal (Fatehgarh Sahib), former Union Minister S S Dhindsa (Sangrur), and sitting MP Ratan Singh Ajnala (Khadoor Sahib).
The remaining candidates would also be announced soon, he said.
On response to a query, Mr Badal said it was important for SAD that they were going to contest Delhi assembly polls on its own symbol.
''SAD is contesting on four seats in Delhi assembly elections and we are definitely going to win,'' he said.
