Dreaded criminal killed in encounter in UP
Bareilly, Nov 9 (UNI) A dreaded criminal who had kidnapped Pilibhit district Congress president last night was shot dead in a police encounter under Izzatnagar area here today.
However, during the encounter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) B K Singh narrowly escaped a bullet which hit his bullet proof jacket.
Mr Singh said Bunti, who was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, had recently fled from police custody.
He had demanded a ransom of Rs 25 lakhs each from the Pilibhit Congress president Sudhir Tiwari and a businessman Anil Agarwal four days back.
Last night when Mr Tiwari came out of his house to visit his friend, Bunti and his two accomplices kidnapped him and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakhs.
On receiving the information, police cordoned off the area and Bunti was shot dead in the ensuing encounter but two of his accomplices managed to escape.
Two policemen were also injured in the encounter while the SSP, who led by the police team, claimed that one bullet fired by the criminals hit his bullet proof jacket. The vehicle in which the Congress leader was kidnapped was also recovered by the police.
