Srinagar, Nov 9 (UNI) The Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) here is all set to telecast the second edition of Milay Sur series from DD Kashir every Friday-Saturday at 1930 hrs from next week.
Buoyed by the huge success of first series of Milay Sur, a talent hunt and reality show which sent a wave of music strings across the Valley last year, it's second edition would provide a platform to the budding singers and showcase their talent in a big way which otherwise remains untapped due to dearth of such opportunities in the Valley.
Director DDK Dr Rafeea Masoodi said after receiving a huge response from the viewers it was decided to re-start Milay Sur part II from the kendra.
Unlike last time the reality show will feature inter-district contests this time and the winners of the grand finale would be awarded lucrative prizes which will boost their morale, he said.
Dr Masoodi said that efforts are being made to rope-in big business houses like Airtel, Aircel and Jammu and Kashmir Bank for sponsoring the event and the jury who would assess the performance of the participants would include leading singers of the Valley including Waheed Jeelani, Kaiser Nizami, Rehmat-ul-lah khan and faculty from institute of fine arts.
He said that the new series of Milay Sur will have special emphasis on Kashmiri language as knowledge of Kashmiri language and Kashmiri music has been made mandatory for the participants.
About the selection, he said, before inviting applications for the auditions we made it mandatory that only those contestants should come for the auditions who know about Kashmiri language and Kashmiri music as the talent hunt show would feature questions and rounds on Kashmiri music.
Dr Masoodi said during the winter people usually prefer to stay indoors and the youngsters do not find any recreational activity to spend their vacation.
The reality show would turn out to be a memorable vacation for the youth and will channelis their talent in a productive manner, he said.
The kendra received more than 500 applications out of which 332 were invited for the auditions. From these 332 participants 154 have been short listed for the preliminary round Sur-Taal where the participants would be asked to perform on harmonium and tabla.
The incharge of the programme said that the round would be inter-district level and from 154 participants, 30-40 with 3-4 participants from each district would be selected who would then sort it out in the grand finale.
Giving the district wise breakup of the number of participants selected for the Sur-Taal round, the incharge said out of 154 participants 44 got selected from Srinagar, eight from Ganderbal, 23 from Baramullah, eight from Kupwara, six from Bandipora, 15 from Anantnag, 20 from Pulwama, five from Shopian, one from Kulgam and 18 from Budgam.
