Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, Nov 8 (UNI) A woman naxalite Dalam commander, facing more than 20 serious charges including those of murder and arson, was arrested in Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.
According to police, the woman, identified as Ammakka Jagga Atram alias Sarojakka, a resident of village Sindha in Aheri tehsil of this district, was Commander of Jimalgatta Dalam and a member of the Aheri Area Committee. The offences pending against her include murder, killing policemen, blasts and arson, they said.
Ammakka is the wife of Lachchhanna alias Lanka Papi Reddy, a member of the Naxal Central Committee, who surrendered before the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government in February 2008, police also said.
She joined the outlawed movement in 1991, and has been active in Gadchiroli district and Abujamad in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, they added.
It was revealed during her interrogation that she was involved in the encounter with the police near village Korepalli in this district on October 26, in which four policemen were killed.
Ammakka was on her way to AP, when she was nabbed from the forest in Aheri tehsil during a combing operation, police said, adding, she has been remanded to police custody for seven days.
