Week-long Disaster Management drill begins today
Mumbai, Nov 8 (UNI) More than 500 people, including 250 State Government Officials and International experts participated in the week-long Mumbai Emergency Management Exercise (MEMEx) which began here today.
The Emergency Management drill undertaken in various locations around the city is jointly organised by the Hinduja Hospital, Times Centre for Disaster Management, University of Mumbai and Life supporters Institute of Health Science along with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay.
Foreign participants in the event included, the 'NewYork- Presbyterian', 'University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell', 'Havard Humanitarian Initiative' and 'AmeriCares'.
They will co-ordinate local emergency responders, hospitals, schools, and allow state agencies to explore and strengthen the city's emergency response system through the training workshops.
''Prehospital response and the clinical speciality of emergency medicine is at its nascent stages in India, are proud to partner the city of Mumbai in helping it focus and strengthen medical response in disaster situations,'' said Hinduja Hospital CEO, Pramod Lele today.
The week long exercise will evaluate and identify needs in Mumbai's disaster response systems.
